Taste of Asia

An Asian experience that your family will love.

In Asian cultures, food, entertainment and family go hand in hand. With a little help from Sidekicks, you too can put together an evening full of fun activities that your family will enjoy! Some great thought starters are as follows:

  • Start your evening off with a simple and creative activity like Origami, the Japanese art of paper folding. Any paper will do, but using scraps of old wrapping paper can add a colourful element to your creations. Origami instructions are readily available online in varying degrees of difficulty and your origami creations will make the perfect table decorations!

  • Try using a different room in the house for dinner. A change of scenery will do some good for your chi (your body’s energy flow) and a low lying coffee table may turn into the perfect dinner scene for your meal! Gather up a few pillows for seating and make some Chinese lanterns to really set the mood.
  • Preparing dinner is a great time to connect and chat with all the members of your family. Get everyone involved with their own task, from chopping vegetables to stirring and adding ingredients. Sharing is also a big part of the Asian culture, so consider making up a few different dishes that can be shared by everyone. The act of sharing food opens the door to better personal connections and more open conversation.
  • Try eating your Asian dinner using chopsticks. The more you practice, the easier it becomes! Hint: When trying chopsticks for the first time, it’s much easier with noodle dishes than rice!
  • Nothing tops off a great dinner better than a couple scoops of Green Tea or Mango ice-cream, some family time on the couch and your favourite themed movie. Your whole family will be transported to another time and left dreaming of the next family theme night to come!
